Saunas & Cold Water Showers can both have health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced inflammation, and better mood.
Contrast Therapy:
Using saunas and cold water together as contrast therapy can have a powerful impact on the body's circulation and recovery.
Benefits of saunas:
- Improved cardiovascular health: Regular sauna use can lower blood pressure in adults with hypertension
- Improved recovery: Saunas can help with recovery
Benefits of cold water showers:
- Improved circulation: Cold water constricts blood vessels, which helps blood return to the heart
- Reduced inflammation: Cold exposure can reduce inflammation
- Improved mood: Cold water immersion can improve mood and reduce negative emotions like anger and depression
- Increased blood flow: Cold water immersion can increase blood flow
- Activated brown fat: Cold therapy can activate brown fat, which helps burn calories and regulate metabolism
Tips for cold water immersion:
- Start by turning the knob to cold at the end of a hot shower and sticking your face in the cold water for 30 seconds
- Work up to getting your whole body under the cold water
- Soak in water that's around 60°F (15°C) or colder for several minutes
PLEASE NOTE:
THE COLD WATER SHOWER IS NOT FOR WASHING IN.
